Thursday Turf Throwdown
After a great card on Memorial Day, we're taking the day off here on Wednesday and jumping back into the swing of things on Thursday.
Taking a look at the card, the fifth race jumps out as one where you can get some bang for your buck. Most all of these runners are accomplished on the turf, and at first glance it would be tough to find an overwhelming favorite amongst the group.
When it comes down to it, #5-Master Mizzen will probably go off as the favorite here, and I'm thinking he is a play against. This is the type of horse that seems to always find a way to get beaten, combine that with Mr. Leparoux's tendency to run second on favored horses (no offense Julien), and I'm going to base my wagers around Master Mizzen finishing second or third.
The horse I'm using on top is the German bred #4-Ambassador. On paper, he's the fastest horse in this race, and the addition of Lasix for new trainer Andrew McKeever sets this son of Acatenango up for a big performance in this one. This horse was obviously highly thought of, and finishing only a length behind Nobiz Like Shobiz in last year's Hall Of Fame Stakes (GII) at Saratoga shows that he belongs with the toppies when he is on song.
Two more sneaky types in this field are the #1-Brilliant Bid, and #2-You Got Me Rocking. These two roughies (15/1 and 8/1 respectively) can both run huge here and pick up checks.
So here's where I'm headed with my wagering on this one if I happen to have $50 burning a hole in my pocket:
$5 Trifecta wheel: 4 with 5 with 1,2.....$10
$2 Trifecta wheel: 4 with 1,2 with 5.....$4
$5 Exacta wheel: 4 with 1,2,5.............$15
Win on the 4-Ambassador (GER)........$15
$6 Exacta saver bet: 5 with 4................$6
Good luck, and fire away... This is a good race to get some value.
