Join us for our premier race of the Fall Meet, the Clark Handicap presented by Norton Healthcare.
One of the oldest races in the United States, the Clark Handicap has been run every year without interruption since 1875, the year the track was opened. The race is named in honor of Colonel M. Lewis Clark, founder of the Louisville Jockey Club which built Churchill Downs.
The race consistently draws a top-class field of handicap horses and has been won throughout the years by champions such as Whirlaway, Exterminator, Silver Charm and Saint Liam. Last year's edition of the Clark Handicap presented by Norton Healthcare was captured by Einstein, who will attempt to defend his title in the Clark Handicap in 2009.
