Featuring Stars of Tomorrow I
Opening Day of the 2013 Fall Meet is highlighted by the Stars of Tomorrow I race program which is a day dedicated two-year-old racing. There will be two stakes races on the card including the $65,000-added Street Sense Overnight Stakes and the $65,000-added Rags to Riches Overnight Stakes. Come out and watch these talented two-year-olds, and who knows you may be getting a glimpse of the 2014 Kentucky Oaks and Derby winner!
The sound of the "Call to the Post" is back again and what better way to kick it off than to receive the new 2014 Churchill Downs Calendar presented by Humana! The first 5,000 fans through the gates will receive a voucher that can be redeemed for the 2014 calendar which features classic Churchill Downs and Kentucky Derby images. Vouchers can be redeemed starting after Race 4 until 6:00 p.m.
Churchill Downs celebrates the pageantry, excitement and thrill of horseracing every Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. with family-focused activities during Family Fun Days presented by Kroger. Kiddos 12 and younger are invited to enjoy games, crafts, visits from Churchill Charlie, and special weekly events on the new Plaza Balcony overlooking The Plaza.
The Junior Jockey Club, different from Family Fun Days presented by Kroger, will be open Saturdays in the club location near Gate 10. Exception - the Junior Jockey Club will not be open on Downs after Dark nights.
Sunday Oct. 27 - Trick-or-Treat Parade with Churchill Charlie
On this day, the kids have an opportunity to participate in a Trick-or-Treat Parade led by Churchill Charlie. Start time is at 2:30pm and participants should meet at the bottom of the Plaza Staircase.
Children will visit various "Boo Stations" to collect various Halloween goodies along the ground floor brick area.
Crafts: Children can decorate their own trick-or-treat bag for the parade, as well as a spider photo frame magnet!
The Street Sense is an open race for juveniles named in honor of the winner of the 2007 Kentucky Derby and 2006 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs.
The Rags to Riches, a race restricted to 2-year-old fillies, honors the 2007 Kentucky Oaks winner who later defeated Preakness (GI) winner and two-time Horse of the Year Curlin in the Belmont Stakes (GI) and was named the Eclipse Award champion 3-year-old filly.
