Simply Seattle Takes Friday Feature

Tim Standafer and Rick Tipton’s Simply Seattle rallied in deep stretch to win Friday’s featured $51,245 CFW Mane Event Purse at Churchill Downs by three-quarters of a length over Kiawah’s Magic.

            Ridden by Corey Lanerie, Simply Seattle broke on top in the five-furlong sprint on the firm Matt Winn Turf Course but was shuffled back to fourth along the hedge leaving the backstretch. Lanerie angled Simply Seattle out three-wide at the head of the stretch for clear sailing which produced the victory in :57.86.

            Trained by Mike Orm, Simply Seattle returned $10.80, $5.20 and $3.80 in winning for the third time in 17 career starts. Kiawah’s Magic, ridden by Joe Johnson, returned $14.20 and $7.80 with Koka Kola Kitty finishing a nose back in third under Robby Albarado and paying $5 in the field of nine.

The victory was worth $32,105 and increased the career earnings for the 4-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Chief Seattle to $116,366.

          Racing resumes Saturday with an 11-race card beginning at 12:45 p.m. (EDT). Highlighting the card as the 10th race is the 33rd running of the Early Times Mint Julep Handicap (Grade III) featuring such outstanding turf fillies as Pure Clan, Acoma and Tizaqueena.

Simply Seattle Simply Best ay Churchill Downs

(November 16, 2008) – Tim Standafer and Rick Tipton’s Simply Seattle repulsed a bid from favored Time Flies at the top of the stretch and drew off in the final eighth of a mile to win Sunday’s $42,780 allowance feature at Churchill Downs by 1 ½ lengths.

            Ridden by John Byrne, Simply Seattle rocketed to an early lead in the field of five. Time Flies, ridden by Robby Albarado, made a menacing move leaving the far turn and drew on even terms with Simply Seattle.

The two leaders raced as a team until Simply Seattle drew clear to complete the five furlongs on the muddy main track in :58.70.  The race for fillies and mares was originally scheduled for the turf.

Trained by Mike Orm, Simply Seattle returned mutuels of $5 and $2.20 with no show wagering. Times Flies, who finished 12 lengths in front of Believeinthemoment, paid $2.20 to place.

 

            Simply Seattle, a 3-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Chief Seattle out of the Siphon mare She’s Snazzi, improved her earnings to $73,141 with the winner’s check of $27,606.

           Live racing resumes at Churchill Downs on Wednesday with a 10-race program that begins at 12:40 p.m. ET.
