Double Eagle Ranch and Buena Suerte Equine’s 2009 Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird, working in company with Bird Empire, drilled five furlongs in :59.60 over a fast track Tuesday morning at Churchill Downs.
CHAMPION RACHEL ALEXANDRA WELL AFTER FLEUR DE LIS VICTORY – Reigning Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra was reported by trainer Steve Asmussen to be doing well on Sunday following her 10 ½-length victory in the $200,000-added Fleur De Lis Handicap (Grade II) on the Stephen Foster Handicap (GI) undercard.
VODIKA COLLINS, KAELIN GOT STEPHEN FOSTER HANDICAP OFF AND RUNNING – Saturday’s 29th running of the Stephen Foster Handicap carries Grade I status and a $600,000-added pot.
Trainer Forrest Kaelin claims foul.
“I used to tell (former Churchill Downs president) Tom Meeker I got short-changed,” Kaelin said with a laugh. “The race was just $50,000 then.”
