Calvin Borel had twice seen Churchill Downs riding titles slip away by the slimmest of margins to Julien Leparoux, but the two-time Kentucky Derby winner turned the tables in the 2009 Fall Meet as he won four races on the meet’s final day to earn a dramatic 27-27 tie for “leading jockey” with his French-born rival as the historic track concluded the 21-day meet on Saturday.

More than 500 families and individuals received frozen turkeys and boxes of food that contained canned goods and other holiday trimmings at Churchill Downs on Tuesday, Nov. 24 as The Lord’s Kitchen conducted its annual Thanksgiving Family Food Box Giveaway at the home of the Kentucky Derby.
Popular Churchill Downs-based jockey Calvin Borel, who swept this year’s Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby aboard Rachel Alexandra and Mine That Bird, respectively, will be honored at Churchill Downs this weekend (Nov. 21-22) with a bobblehead giveaway, autograph session, roast and his very own drink special.
Churchill Downs will offer racing fans new value in its daily wagering menu when the track launches an experiment with 50-cent minimum Pick 3 and trifecta wagers beginning with its racing program on Thursday, Nov. 19 and continuing through the end its Fall Meet on Saturday, Nov. 28.

Churchill Downs Unveils Artwork for Kentucky Derby 136 by Internationally Acclaimed French Artist Linda Le Kinff
A bold and colorful painting by internationally acclaimed French artist Linda Le Kinff was unveiled Friday, Nov. 13 at Churchill Downs as the official artwork of the 2010 Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks. The focal point of the vibrant work, which showcases exquisite line quality, is the world famous Kentucky Derby winner’s circle.
Churchill Downs will offer free general admission to all United States veterans and active military on Wednesday, Nov. 11 with proof of identification.
Admission gates open at 11:30 a.m. and the 10-race card, which begins at 12:40 p.m. ET, is highlighted by a six-day Pick 6 carryover of $21,099 on Races 5-10.
Churchill Downs will celebrate “Ladies’ Weekend” on Saturday, Nov. 14 and Sunday, Nov. 15 with a special ladies only handicapping seminar, unique boutique bazaar and warehouse sale and the second annual celebration of “Horses and Hope” to raise awareness for breast cancer.
