Breeders' Cup Simulcast
Churchill Downs will open admission gates at 11:30 am ET on Friday, October 24, and 11 am ET on Saturday, October 25, for an action-packed two-day simulcast of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships from Santa Anita.
The Breeders’ Cup simulcast serves as a precursor to the start of Churchill Downs’ 119th Fall Meet, which begins its 26-day run at the Louisville, Ky. racetrack on Sunday, Oct. 26.
Championship Friday at Santa Anita will begin at 2:05 p.m. ET, with the first of five consecutive Breeders’ Cup races for fillies and mares scheduled as Race 3 at 3:35 p.m. ET. The $2 million Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (Grade I), formerly known as the Distaff, concludes the Breeders’ Cup parade at 6:15 p.m. ET, which is Race 7 on the 10-race program.
Championship Saturday’s 11-race card will start at 1:10 p.m. ET with the $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Marathon. The $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (GI), headlined by reigning Horse of the Year and last year’s winner Curlin, will be Race 9 at 6:45 p.m. ET.
In addition to its regular simulcast wagering hotspots on the second floor of the clubhouse, Churchill Downs will offer amenities in its Jockey Club, Turf Club, Jockey Club Suites and Finish Line Suites on Friday. For Saturday, the Matt Winn Dining Room, first floor of the clubhouse, paddock gardens and Churchill Downs Lounge will be open, as well.
Customers who attend Churchill Downs on Friday will be able to advance wager on the entire Championship Saturday program from Santa Anita.
The Breeders’ Cup wagering menu includes 10-cent Superfectas on all races, plus the world's largest guaranteed pool, the $3 million Ultra Pick 6, which will be offered on Championship Saturday. There will also be a Breeders’ Cup Pick 6 on Championship Friday, with a carryover provision into Saturday if no one correctly selects the six winners. Also new this year is Super High 5 wagering on both the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic and the Breeders’ Cup Classic. In addition, two of the Breeders' Cup Saturday Pick 4s are guaranteed, with the early Pick 4 starting on Race 2 at a $1 million guarantee and the Pick 4 starting on Race 6 with a $2 million guarantee.
Meanwhile, Sunday’s opening day card at Churchill Downs will begin at 12:40 p.m ET. Grandstand gates open at 11 a.m. ET and the first 5,000 fans through the turnstiles will receive a free 2009 Churchill Downs Wall Calendar, complete with race dates, major event listings and vivid and memorable images from the Kentucky Derby and around the track. The five-week Fall Meet will continue through Saturday, Nov. 29.
