Toe Grabs Banned at Churchill Downs Incorporated Racetracks

Churchill Downs Incorporated has implemented a new horseshoe policy at its four racetracks that bans the use of toe grabs greater than two millimeters. The new policy is effective immediately.

The policy, which will apply to all horses racing and training at Churchill Downs, Arlington Park, Calder Race Course and Fair Grounds Race Course, states:

Due to a decline of purse money earned from wagering sources during its 2008 Spring Meet, Churchill Downs Racetrack has been forced to reduce $975,000 from its stakes program for the upcoming 2008 Fall Meet through purse reductions in 11 stakes races and the elimination of two other stakes.

The board of directors of Churchill Downs Incorporated has elected James McDonald and Alex Rankin to the positions of director to serve until the 2010 annual meeting of the Company’s shareholders. Churchill Downs Presents $25,000 Grant to Kentucky Derby Museum

Churchill Downs Incorporated has presented a check for $25,347 to the Kentucky Derby Museum to help in the funding and development of education programs at the museum.  Those programs benefit the more than 22,000 students from schools throughout the region who visit the museum each year.

Kentucky Derby Museum Announces Memorial Service for Eight Belles

Funeral For Track Announcer Luke Kruytbosch To Be Held At Churchill Downs On Monday At 1 P.M.

(July 18, 2008) - The funeral service for popular track announcer Luke Kruytbosch, the "Voice of the Kentucky Derby" since 1999, will be held in Churchill Downs' paddock garden on Monday, July  21, at 1 p.m. ET.

Churchill Downs Announcer, 'Voice of the Kentucky Derby' Luke Kruytbosch Dies

Luke Kruytbosch, the announcer at historic Churchill Downs and the “Voice of the Kentucky Derby” since 1999, has died.
 
His body was found Monday morning in an apartment Kruytbosch (pronounced KRITE-boss) was renting in Evansville, Ind.  No official cause of death has been announced, but published reports indicate that it appears that he had died of natural causes.
