IEAH Stables and Paul Pompa Jr.’s Big Brown, the unbeaten winner of the Florida Derby (Grade I), remained the top choice of Kentucky Derby fans as the third and final pool of Churchill Downs’ 2008 Kentucky Derby Future Wager reached its midway point.

If unbeaten Big Brown wins Saturday’s $1 million Belmont Stakes, all fans in attendance at Churchill Downs that day will receive a free, limited edition commemorative Triple Crown print to be given away at the Louisville racetrack on Sunday, June 22.

KENTUCKY DERBY WINNER BIG BROWN IN EAGER IN GALLOP

IEAH Stables and Paul Pompa Jr.’s Big Brown justified his trainer’s confidence and the faith of the betting public by powering to a 4 3/4-length victory over Fox Hill Farms’ filly Eight Belles to win the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands before a crowd of 157,770, the second-largest in history.

Jockey Robby Albarado, a finalist for last year's Eclipse Award as America's leading jockey who ranks seventh among the all-time riding leaders at Churchill Downs, earned his first "leading rider" title under the historic Twin Spires as the home of the Kentucky Derby wrapped up its 52-day Spring Meet on Sunday, July 6. 

An hour before Kentucky Derby champ Big Brown tries to keep his Triple Crown hopes alive in Saturday’s $1 million Preakness Stakes, another IEAH Stables’ 3-year-old will attempt to land the $100,000-added Matt Winn at Churchill Downs.

DERBY WINNER BIG BROWN JOGS AGAIN ON MUDDY TRACK

The largest Kentucky Derby crowd of the 21st century gathered under the historic Twin Spires to watch undefeated Derby favorite Big Brown power through the stretch and dominate a full field of 20 horses in the Grade I Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands. 

Trainer Helen Pitts was already looking to have an explosive Fourth of July holiday weekend with her stable star Einstein headed for Friday’s Firecracker Handicap (GII). An added bonus could come in Sunday’s one-mile Locust Grove Handicap (GIII) with Meribel. 

Trainer Rick Dutrow, still fighting a heavy cough, was back at the track Tuesday morning at Churchill Downs supervising his 12-horse string in Louisville headlined by Big Brown winner of last Saturday’s Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (Grade I).

Ronald Lamarque and Louie Roussel III’s fifth-place Kentucky Derby finisher, Recapturetheglory, has had his Preakness plans put on hold by a fever.

“Everything’s good here,” trainer Rick Dutrow said Thursday morning after Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown, winner of the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (Grade I) was back in Stall 12 at Barn 22 on the Churchill Downs backstretch. With Michelle Nevin up, Big Brown went to the track before 7 o’clock and jogged a mile.

  A busy Monday at Churchill Downs saw significant training moves by several major stakes winners, including works by reigning “Horse of the Year” Curlin and Belmont Stakes (Grade I) contender Denis of Cork.

IEAH Stables and Paul Pompa Jr.’s Big Brown had his presence announced on the track shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday with a loud clap of thunder.
