Chic Anderson
Charles David "Chic" Anderson is among the most famous voices in Thoroughbred racing. He began working at Dade Park (now Ellis Park) as a young man in 1951, and eight years later became the track announcer there. His career under the Twin Spires began in 1961, with his race calls of the Kentucky Derby broadcast on CBS beginning in 1969. He remained at Churchill Downs through the Kentucky Derby of 1977, and died of a heart attack in New York in March of 1979. His career included work with NYRA, Oaklawn Park, Santa Anita Park, Ak-Sar-Ben and Arlington Park. Among his most famous calls was the 1973 Kentucky Derby, the launching pad for Secretariat, as well as Seattle Slew's triumphant victory in 1977.
