Jill Byrne's Handicapping

  • Race 1 5-1-4

Duchess of Dilemma (5) is a debut runner with some solid morning drills fro top connections. Blushing Rain (1) drops another level and has the speed and experience to be a factor. Ay Mamita (4) just missed at these conditions last out and figures prominently

  • Race 2 2-3-7

All Ready (2) is a maiden taking on winners but ran a winning race last out off the layoff and is competitive here. Singingmyhymnsong (3) got the victory after a long drive in his last and can handle the next step here. Putitonwaynestab (7) drops to the conditioned claiming ranks here for sharp connections.

  • Race 3 7-5-2

Sharp Tongue Lady (7) has been idle since a good finish behind eventual Fairgrounds Oaks winner Daisy Devine but looks ready off workouts for this softer spot. Second Street City (5) was a runaway winner on a sloppy track here and can repeat for the hot Amoss barn. Ridgester (2) should get a good stalking trip and land a share of this.

  • Race 4 5-2-3

Sassy’s Dream (2) exits a strong stakes race with a good second place finish and looks the logical one to beat on the drop in class. Media Madness (6) has never run a poor race and is the greatest threat to the top pick. Mega Dream (5) makes her turf debut and has a pedigree that suggests she should handle the surface switch.

  • Race 5 8-5-1

Rajpur Road (8) is in good form and returns to the track and distance where she has her best record. Flatter Me Rose (5) is another distance specialist looking to get back on form. On her best she fits well with these. Lava Fire (1) put in a poor effort last out against a stronger group and can be a factor here off her previous win.

  • Race 6 8-4-2

Grilla (8) seems best suited to the distance and conditions. Ovour The Top (4) has run well in all his tries. Dixies Valentine (2) gets Borel for her second start in nearly two years.

  • Race 7 10-5-7

Whinston (10) debuts for top connections and has been working sharply. He has the pedigree to come out quickly and looks the part here. Wire Tranzfer (5) has the experience edge and exits a quickly run race. Bluegrass Shoes (7) is another newcomer with a precocious pedigree for a stable that has success with juvenile runners.

  • Race 8 1-13-2

Dr Ballenger (1) turns back slightly in distance and has the speed to get position from the rail today. Orsonian (13) was sharp off the layoff last out and will be a factor if he draws into the race. Dream Steeler (2) is a newcomer with some eyecatching workouts and a flashy pedigree.

  • Race 9 4-6-7

Banned (4) comes in off a huge victory in the American Turf (GII) over this course and has never run a bad race on the grass. Great Mills (8) will prefer the turf if it is a bit tighter then what he caught last time. He adds to the speed here but is well drawn outside. Benergy (7) seemed to explode when hitting the turf for the first time and may be good enough to handle the step up here.

  • Race 10 3-2-8

Wilburn (3) just defeated several of those he faces again today and looks to be improving with each start. Infrattini (2) had an unlucky trip when second to the top pick and may turn the tables with a better run. Joe Vann (8) is a Grade 3 winner but seems to be most effective when he can get the lead. He may face company on the front today.

  • Race 11 6-2-5

Excited (6) has been consistent in all her turf efforts including an impressive victory from just off the pace last out. Diva Ash (2) has been impressive moving up to a stakes win in just her third out. She may take another step forward here and has worked well for this. Kathmanblu (5) is the proven class in here as a graded stakes winner and handles all conditions. She can have a devastating late run if the pace works her way.

  • Race 12 2-3-10

Crown of Thorns (2) comes in from California off a victory over the talented Sidney’s Candy and has been training brilliantly since that win. He has been lightly raced but always looked like he was on the verge of being a top handicap star. Apart (3) is in good form for the connections of Blame who won this race last year and has the advantage of a proven fondness for the Churchill track. Giant Oak (10) gets a distance today and a pace set up that works favorably for his late closing style. He has proven the ability to win against top G-1 competition.
