Jill Byrne's Handicapping
Lite Em Up Lily (5) has trained well for her debut and has a precocious pedigree. Social Lover (7) is a first time starter from sharp connections with a series of useful workouts. Angel Love (12) turns back in distance and drops in class for a winning team.
Trading Paint (2) has run well in both her starts and looks set for the score here. Cheechako (3) made a middle move before fading in her debut and can improve off that effort. Whispering Wisdom (8) raced evenly in her first start in a quickly run race.
Moryba (5) exits a hard fought victory last out and raced within close distance to some top turf runners. Mikoshi (7) could not run with the top pick but may get first run on that one today. Strike Impact (3) returns to his favorite turf course and looks to take this field gate to wire.
Simply Delightful (6) is better suited to the dirt course and has the speed to be a danger throughout. Hearts and Roses (2) had a tough trip in her debut and can improve with better racing luck. Sterling Madame (10) has run well in both starts and will be rolling late.
New Wave (1) put in a dull effort in the Alcibiades (GI) but shows two very solid turf runs and should get a ground saving trip here. Welcome Dance (6) faltered badly last out after a stumbling beginning and is a threat here off her maiden score. Bourbonstreetgirl (5) may not have cared for the soft going in the Miss Grillo (GIII) and looks competitive with these.
Prince Teton (8) has a solid local record and comes into this race in winning form. Gypsy Wind (2) should handle the turn back in distance better today and fits nicely in a well matched group. Brother Dan (1) did not fare well against a stronger field last out but can rebound on the drop today.
Class President (6) has worked well for top connections and has a pedigree to handle the mile distance. Spintastic (3) raced evenly in two sprint races and now stretches out with some good recent works for this. Silver Wings (10) struggled over the Polytrack from the inside post and can do better back on dirt here.
Fifth District (3) has been close several times and now drops one more level giving him the edge today. Annual Update (2) has been knocking on the door at this level and does not catch a very strong group today. Wheemaway (12) has shown some decent finishes and can get a share of this if he can overcome the outside post.
Strasbourg (3) can improve in his second start off a long layoff and has worked well for this. Kriegspeil (4) faltered on the Polytrack last out and has shown enough on the dirt course to be a factor here. Pulpit’s Secret (5) has a win locally and always outs out a good run making him hard to leave out of the exotics.
The Cardinal (GIII) attracts a well matched group today. Ravi’s Song (3) has been freshened for today. She just missed over this course and will get a good pace set up today. Tapitsfly (5) ran two good efforts at Saratoga and did not seem to handle the Polytrack last out and will be well placed from the start. Deluxe (6) was no match for Stacelita in the Flower Bowl (GI) and can run better in her third stateside start.
Juju (9) is the most consistent of this group and is in good form. Breckenridge (1) has run well his last two tries and should be close from the start Sure Success (5) has put in a couple of poor efforts but on his best he fits with this field. Koka Kola Ocean (8) and Forest Cat (3) look capable of running in the top 5 off their prior efforts.
