Jill Byrne's Handicapping
Face the Fire (5) is in good form and has run well locally. He has the pace to be in a good position throughout. Z Appeal (6) drops another level but faces older horses today off a good effort last out. Guarded Entrance (1) has run well here in the past and goes for a new stable today. He fits well at this level.
Meridian Magic (4) shortens up slightly after showing some speed against similar. He figures to be well placed from the start and gets the slight edge here. Signature Event (1) has shown most of his form on turf or synthetic tracks but has a pedigree to handle the dirt at this level. Bonaroo (5) is a course winner and the true class dropper today.
Neon Tan (7) improved when stretching out in distance in his second start and can move forward again today. Indian Eddie (3) finished evenly with the top pick in that race and will be running late. Where’s The Beef (5) is the pace angle in here and will be dangerous if allowed to shake loose early.
Royal Start (2) takes a step down and can improve here in her second try off a layoff. Got It Together (7) is very similar to the top choice and will appreciate the added ground here. Maria’s Dane (8) fits well here and adds blinkers which may keep her closer early on.
Supsa (7) showed speed in her debut and looks well spotted on the class drop for sharp connections today. Chamakchallo (13) and Angel Love (15) are stuck on the also eligible list but would be strong contenders of they should draw in.
Chamberlain Bridge (2) exits a rough trip in the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint (GI) and can make amends today on a course he relishes. Birdie Beats Par (4) is perfect over the Matt Winn turf and comes into this race in sharp form. Great Mills (1) has been in good company as well and will be running on well at the end.
Golden Allure (3) has been facing much tougher fields and running well. She looks tough to deny on the drop in class today. Cactus House (9) faltered off the claim in a minor stakes last out but fits well here and will be able to stalk a hot early pace. Kuhlu (5) exits a tough race last out with a runaway winner and can be a part of this with a similar effort.
Necaise (8) faded as the favorite last out against slightly better competition. Drawn towards the outside he may be able to settle better from the start. Secret Commander (9) was facing solid company here in the summer and running well. He will be closing late in a race with some good early pace. Gallatin’s Run (4) should be part of the speed and need only return to his form in California to be a factor here.
Itsallboutthechase (10) will appreciate the return to Churchill where he runs his best races. Rahy Nijmis (9) has been in good form in Indiana and fits well here at a distance he does well over. Gold Bells Spin (6) can move forward in his second try off the layoff and ran well at these conditions in the spring.
Tale of the Cat (12) makes his second start off a break and has a good running style for today’s distance and drawn outside. Casino Dan (3) goes for a good team and has a pedigree to excel under the Twin Spires. Clear Note (6) ran his best race locally and fits with these off that effort.
Arena Elvira (1) is in great form for top connections. She should be able to work out a good stalking trip from the rail today. Ravi’s Song (10) returns to the main track here where she has a good record and will be rolling late of the pace is legitimate. Super Espresso (8) was no match in the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (GI) but can be effective in this well matched group off her performances in the spring.
Colonel Bill (5) had a wide trip last out and ran well here in the spring. Street Talk’n Man (3) ran poorly against better on the turf and fits better on the drop and the surface switch here. Totemtale (10) has worked well since his last race and can be a factor here on his best races. Arousal (6) and Thunderous G (9) both fit well in this spot and can be a part of the finish.
