Jill Byrne's Handicapping

  • Race 1 9-11-10

Radiant Talent (9) just missed in his debut in a tough race and has worked well since then. Mr Saturday (11) makes his first out for a top stable and has the workouts and the pedigree to suggest he will be ready to go. Crafty Macho (10) is another debut runner with a good series of morning drills in preparation for today.

  • Race 2 2-7-9

Angel Terrace (2) made up ground after a troubled start in her first try. She should appreciate the surface switch and the distance and can improve with the experience. Drama Drama (7) has the proven turf form and the speed to be well placed from the start. La Capella (9) is a debut runner from a good team with a strong pedigree top to bottom.

  • Race 3 9-5-6

Charlie In Charge (9) ran evenly in his debut and can move forward off that and with the added distance today. Santonio D’Oro (5) is bred for the distance and the dirt surface and would be no surprise to improve here. Donoharm (6) has run well in all of his starts and adds to the strength of this field.

  • Race 4 7-10-5

Queen’s Bet (7) was an easy winner in her debut and now returns for a new stable that is having a strong meet. She is bred to handle the Churchill surface and has worked well for her return. Swift Artist (10) has been solid in all her starts and may be more relaxed from the outside post. Night Dance (5) was a runaway winner on the sloppy going last out and has come back to work well locally.

  • Race 5 7-2-12

Tapajo (7) faltered on the Polytrack last out but can be a factor here off his good debut effort on dirt at Saratoga. Toxis (2) had a rough debut trip and still finished well and like the top pick seems better suited to the main track here. Swaythisway (12) had the dreaded rail in his debut and was forced to press the pace before fading. The experience and better post will give him a good chance at a top spot here.

  • Race 6 7-1-4

Wayward Sailor (7) finished well in a strong maiden race last out and has the pedigree to excel with the switch to turf today. Power Emblem (1) improved in his second turf try and will get a ground saving trip from the rail today. Captain Fantastic (4) has had a couple of troubled trips on the turf and can show more speed if he can break cleanly today.

  • Race 7 6-4-7

Indian Ambush (6) raced greenly in his debut and should move forward with that experience. My Wahoo (4) has run well in all three tries and has a pedigree to handle the local surface and two turns well. Battle Hardened (7) made up ground late in a strong race and should improve off that and stretching out in distance.

  • Race 8 1-5-9

Voodoo Daddy (1) has good speed to be sharp from the rail post and gets the slight edge off his debut and near miss in a stakes race last out. Sherp (5) will be able to put the pressure on the top pick and has showed promise in both tries. Tarpy’s Goal (9) faltered when pressing the pace last out and may improve under a more patient ride today.

  • Race 9 9-3-10-6

Golden History (9) and Spirited Miss (3) are stablemates with strong credentials to improve in today’s well matched Golden Rod (GII). Golden History made up ground with a wide trip and should relish the two turns and Spirited Miss is already proven in stakes company and should improve on traditional dirt. Glinda The Good (10) flattened out with a middle move last out and should be close throughout. On Fire Baby (6) upset the G2 Pocahontas over the top two and will have to be as effective at two turns.

  • Race 10 3-5-8

Daddy Nose Best (3) had a rough trip and still lost by less than 4 lengths in the very tough Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (GI) class drop and a better trip today puts him in the top spot. Saturday Launch (5) has good speed to be in a perfect spot here to avoid trouble and chased an impressive winner last out. Hollywood Script (8) is bred to move forward on the turf and has worked well since his last start.

  • Race 11 1-9-3-2

Ever So Lucky (1) is taking a big jump from maiden sprinting to the Kentucky Jockey Club (GII) going two turns but has the look of a special colt and may just be this good. He will have to overcome the inside post and inexperience but was professional in his debut romp. Gemologist (9) has been impressive in both his victories and is clearly the one to beat today. Timely Tally (3) chased the second choice last out and will be closing late in a race with plenty of speed. Africanist (2) has also been solid in all his races and warrants a look today.

  • Race 12 8-4-11-2-10

Ender Knievel (8) ran evenly in is debut and is bred to improve with the switch to dirt today and the addition of blinkers. Big John B (4) has been working smartly for his debut for a top team. Tiz Yankee (11) has a top pedigree and has trained well locally for his first out. King Kid (2) and Desert Storm (10) are two well bred newcomers from good stables that have worked well for this.
