Casino Dan (6) ran well here in the fall meet and draws nicely outside the speed here. Typhoon Charlie (4) runs well on any surface and will be a danger to run down on the lead. Closerwalk (3) will prefer the return to the dirt track today.
Gentle Tap (3) appears to have the class edge here as he drops into a conditioned claimer. A repeat of his win here last spring makes him a threat. On Lockdown (5) comes here in sharp form and has a good running style. Elkhorn Creek (1) will be rolling late and fits well.
Bob Can’t Jump (5) has had some chances but shows a few efforts that make him a logical threat here. Matty’s Avenger (1) debuts on the rail with Calvin Borel and has some good workouts. Queen’s Escort (9) is another first time runner with a series of good morning drills.
Dream Now (7) has been away for almost 18 months but fits well with this bottom level group and is likely ready to go. Helliecat (6) has a good local record and will be running late in a race with plenty of pace. Gruenewald (4) loves the Churchill track and was a winner here in the fall against better.
Chasing Alpha (6) debuts for a sharp stable and shows a bullet workout here for her first run. Purses Galore (2) ran well against better quality and is clearly the one to beat as the favorite. Why Izzy Why (9) had a rough trip in her debut and can improve today.
Honor In Peace (4) is undefeated at Churchill and will appreciate the return to a dirt course and the drop in class. Home of the Gold (2) comes in off a layoff but runs well fresh and is consistent at this level. Aeromon (3) is on a win streak versus lesser and may not get caught with his good speed.
D’Wildcard (3) is in good form and should be in the perfect stalking trip today. Plasma Bean (1A) looks to be the lone speed here and though the distance is a question he may be hard to run down. Victory Notion (2) is very consistent and has to be used in the exotics.
The Cliff’s Edge Derby Trial (GIII) draws a strong field with some lightly raced potential stars. Paynter (7) stepped up to Grade 1 company off only a maiden win in one start sprinting and ran extremely well. The one turn mile should be a perfect fit for him. Hierro (5) has looked great training locally and should get plenty of early pace to set up his stalking style. Bourbon Courage (11) is undefeated and untested with big race numbers and draws well outside.
Cascadilla Falls (6) ran well in both her local efforts and will be able to relax off the speed from the outside post today. Speedacious (4) enters off a 4 race win streak but could be vulnerable if pressured early on. Sharp Tongue Lady (5) is undefeated here and has shown the ability to rate which gives her an edge today.
Zulu Warrior (8) has run well on the turf since being dropped in class and has the pace to be in a good spot from the start. Ruthless Empire (2) ran well in both tries and is a big threat to the top pick from off the pace. Smile Daddy (5) has the pedigree to improve with the switch to turf.
Sarah’s Kitten (10) returns to the dirt today and gets the slight edge in a well matched group. Storm Cloud Rising (2) drops a level today and ran well here against a better group. Buffalo River Gal (7) is lightly raced and has been idle for 10 months but won at first asking here. Fitz’n To Go (6) and Lotta Heart (9) should round out the super hi 5.
