Jill Byrne's Handicapping
Raquel (1) has been running well against better fields and looks to get a good trip today. Wish Keeper (5) takes the blinkers off and takes a class drop today which should have her closer. Minesave (2) had a tough trip in her debut and is bred to handle the dirt course.
Chanttoomuch (5) went off favored in his debut and has been idle since that start. He returns at the bottom claiming price for a sharp stable. Doc Heath (2) goes for new connections today which excel off the claim and figures to be the biggest threat. Cat in Motion (1) shows a good local start and fits well here.
Privatemarketvalue (5) had no luck in her debut when drawing the rail. The experience of that start and a better draw give her a good shot today. Take Interest (2) drops a notch in class and returns to the dirt surface. She shows a very good workout for this. Love Numbers (1) has been away for awhile but will be ready to go for a very strong stable.
Ten time Churchill winner Ready’s Rocket (5) returns to his favorite track and reunites with Calvin Borel to try to get back to the winner’s circle. Por Que (6) looks like a serious threat to the top pick off his dominating win at this level last out. Scored (4) arrives off two blow out scores and is well placed today.
Firetack (4) has never run a poor race and figures prominently from the start with this field. Castlepost (5) takes a another drop down the ladder and will appreciate the better outside post today. Battle Call (8) goes as a first time gelding and first time tag, giving him the most upside in this group.
Tutti Buona Gente (8) has a solid turf record and goes first off the claim for connections who are tough to go against in these scenarios. Game Ball (2) is a nose away from having had 8 consecutive victories and is the logical favorite here. Major Marvel (1) has good speed and like the top pick debuts for a new barn which excels in this situation.
Knownforstone (2) has run well over the local track and is in good form at this level. Pacificator (4) runs poorly everywhere except beneath the Twin Spires and has to be considered a top contender upon his return to his favorite track; Oriana Rossi tends to get the most out of him. Cheyenne Bodie (3) should be close early and fits with these.
Burban (7) was a popular winner here on closing day and has trained well for her return from a layoff. Refugio (1) showed two good efforts at Gulfstream most recently and should be close today. Fontanne (4) responded in her second start when transferred to the dirt course with a big win and should be able to move forward off of that.
Little Miss Muffet (4) is bred to really move forward in her first try on the turf and has the pace to be in a good spot from the start. Walker Bay (5) has a couple of good runs sprinting on the grass and will be closing late under Leparoux. Jealousofmyboogie (1) has been idle for nearly a year but showed she can run well off the layoff before.
Dr. Ballenger (5) exits a decent effort in a stronger race and has a good local record. Saratoga Red (8) has been stuck at this condition for a while but has run well enough against slightly better to warrant a top finish here. Tiz A Theme (2) is consistent and will land a share of this field. Jazz Court (6) and My Zipper (4) look to round out the top 5 at good odds.
