Churchill Downs Today Wed, May 2, 2012
No carryovers today.
Jill Byrne's Handicapping
Lignite (1) faded after forcing very quick fractions in her first start and will be the one to catch today. Quiet Success (3) broke poorly in her debut but made up some ground and has posted two local works since then. Sweet Shirley Mae (4) is that one’s stablemate and has worked sharply for a top juvenile barn.
Plasma Beam (3) is in good form at this starter level and is one for one at Churchill. He Ain’t Right (6) is another with sharp current form and has run well locally but has finished behind the top pick when they met. Keepinonestepahead (1) finished just behind the second choice and will be closing late with all the pace today.
Brigade (3) drops in class and returns to the main track, which he should prefer. Splash Landing (7) ran evenly in his only start and can improve off that effort. Yes He’s Trouble (4) may not have cared for the synthetic surface last out and figures with these on his prior races.
J C’s Dream (7) drops into a claiming race for the first time and should get plenty of speed to set up his run. Dynamite Lonnie D (1) has been close in most of his previous starts and seems well spotted for sharp connections today. Big Royal Deal (5) will be part of the pace and drops back to his better level.
Trupeg (4) showed some speed in her debut and may improve just enough off that to be a factor today. Pretty Witty (5) exits a good effort as well in a fast race in her debut and may last longer on the surface switch here. Virginia Ann (6) adds to the pace today and the cutback in distance is to her advantage.
Condurre (3) takes blinkers off and ran well in his efforts at Churchill Downs before. He has worked sharply and will be rolling late. Smarty Gras (6) was claimed by sharp connections and looks perfectly placed today. Toastmaster (2) also goes for a new barn that excels in these scenarios.
Kitty Wine (9) gets Leparoux back aboard and is in good form. She will be forwardly placed and gets the slight edge in a well matched field. Warm Hugs (3) has a solid race record and has a perfect stalking running style for this turf course and race. Putthebabiesdown (7) makes her second start off a layoff and already has the proven turf form. She should move forward today.
Moon Dancing (8) comes in off a big win against similar and will sit the perfect trip from the outside. Alexandria Wa (1) drops back down a level she fits well at and returns to the main track which should get her back on form. Fleur De Lilly (7) has a win over the surface and seems to be rounding back to form.
Mutual Trust (2) has faced solid stakes company in his two stateside efforts and looks to get a good pace setup today. Strike Impact (3) will be part of the pace and is a Matt Winn course specialist who can be dangerous to run down late. Lil Bit O’Fun (6) makes his second start off a layoff and has been competitive against some strong fields in the past.
The entry of Indy Ride (1) and Very Fair (1A) look formidable in this spot and either one gets the nod. Red Wine (5) makes his second try off a break and reunites with Borel who was aboard for his last win. Candy Run (6) faltered in a tougher race last out and can be a factor today. Saviano (2) and Wicklow County (8) should gain a share of the Super Hi-5.
