Jill Byrne's Handicapping
Curzon Street (2) showed little versus better company and on Polytrack but will improve with the class drop and surface switch here. Cactus Cognac (1) raced evenly in all three tries and is the one to defeat today. Wine Time (6) is another class dropper who may benefit from the added ground.
Ninety Five South (3) takes a sharp dive down the claiming ladder for top connections. Pagosa Peak (7) has struggled at times but has run well locally and has good speed. Rare Lukey (2) stopped against stronger but has the speed to be dangerous from the start.
Sweet on Kitten (8) can handle the step up to winners today off an easy front running score. Party Vow (1) has been away from the races but was performing well on the turf prior to that. Gold Love (3) is very consistent and will be forwardly placed.
Adulare (4) is a class dropper with some past form that fits with these. Max Silverhammer (2) is in good form and handles any surface. Harborplace (3) ran deceptively well against a tough field last out and has a win locally.
Favorite Flavor (7) returns to a level she is very competitive in and has the speed to be close throughout. Autumn Eyes (6) is a course specialist who will push the top pick from the start. True (3) fits well with this group for good connections.
Somewhere Sadie (3) has worked well for her debut in a well matched field. Getaway Spot (2) is another first time starter with good morning drills and a precocious pedigree. Venus De Milo (8) goes for a new stable after everything went wrong in her debut last summer.
Lockout (3) faces maidens for the first time since his debut as he has been competing consistently well in stakes company. If he likes the turf he looks best here. Santonio D’Oro (8) ran well in his local turf start and now makes his second try off a layoff. Matar (5) showed little in his debut but has a pedigree to improve with the surface switch and distance.
Hardtap (3) debuts for a sharp stable with a decent workout pattern. Just For Today (9) is another first time runner from good connections with a pedigree to excel at Churchill. Grand Avenue (2) adds to the interesting debut runners in here for a stable capable of sending one out ready first time.
Sum of the Parts (6) was very impressive in his return to the races and should handle the turf course. Heir Joe (4) has some proven turf form and will be stalking the expected quick pace. Ballyclough (5), like the top pick, returned from a layoff with a sharp win and has proven turf form.
Gabbie Gulch (2) had a troubled trip last out and with better luck looks best here. Ashlee’s Mom (10) just won at this level and looks to get the perfect trip right off the pace. All About Her (8) has the best back form in here and goes for the lowest price of her career. Tip Along (7) and Miss Bulldog (3) figure strongly in the top five.
