Jill Byrne's Handicapping
Lake Dancer (4) has a good series of works and a precocious pedigree as she debuts for top juvenile connections. Queen Nine (5) has also been well prepped for her first start for a stable that dominates in these scenarios. Ocean Park (6) makes her debut start with a good recent gate drill.
Caldo Cat (3) drops down a level after a good effort versus a stronger field and looks the best in here. Souped Up Fast (2) has speed and catches a group with limited early pace. Longhammer (6) steps up in class but has a win locally.
Major Marvel (1) just dominated a similar group and looks tough to go against today. Ridge Dance (3) has solid turf form and has a perfect stalking style for this course. Tanalian (2) stretches out in distance, drops in class and has a solid local turf record over the Matt Winn Turf Course.
Special Jo (4) debuts with some solid workouts and a win early pedigree for top connections. Gunderman (6) is a stablemate of the top pick and shows a similar workout pattern. Southern Blast (7) has a precocious pedigree and has trained well for his first out.
Piton (7) was a blowout winner and now tries winners for a new stable that does well with these. Eleven of Hearts (4) had a rough trip when third at this level and can be a factor on his best. Karma’s Comin (1) also had a troubled trip in his last try and fits well here.
Big Boy Charlie (5) is in excellent form and goes for a new barn that is rolling at this meet. Why I Am (4) exits a sharp win and steps up for top connections. Mad Aftershock (8) ran evenly at this level and would improve if the track came up muddy.
Jungle Juice (6) is consistent and well placed today in this closely matched group. Monono (4) returns from the layoff on the class drop and will be a factor if she’s ready. Virginia Ann (5) steps up in top form.
Laconic (4) has excellent turf form and will be better suited to the step down in company here. Truthorfiction (8) tries to take his speed around two turns. Internalaccounting (3) has solid turf efforts but steps up in class here.
Chief Gaga (7) showed little in his debut but gets another chance on a track that should suit him well. Vasten (5) has improved in each start and will once again be a strong contender here. An Shanachie (3) just missed on the Polytrack last out and may carry that speed further on the main track.
Jamaican Smoke (7) ran well in both tries and has worked very well locally. Totally Tucker (2) has a similar profile to the top pick and will be rolling down the stretch. Avid (4) tries the dirt course for the first time in his second try off a long break.
Thirsty Thursday (10) goes for a new barn and ran deceptively well in a stronger race. Cactus Cognac (1) has two good turf efforts and figures prominently here. Sports Day (7) ran well last out on the grass and figures if he can repeat that effort. Zulu Warrior (11) and Lunar Red (12) will be tough if they draw in the race.
