Jill Byrne's Handicapping

  • Race 1 6-5-4

Stinking Creek (6) drops sharply for connections that do well in this scenario. He returns to the main track which suits him better. Golden Husker (5) flattened out after making a middle move and fits well off that effort. Awesome’s Eleven (4) finally got the win at this distance last out and can get a share of this today.

  • Race 2 1-4-6

Cheery (1) ran well in both starts and looks set to handle the added distance here. Ticket To Broadway (4) should improve in her second try off the layoff. Smartly Bred (6) broke poorly from the rail in her debut and can do better with the outside draw and race experience.

  • Race 3 5-4-1

Ice Cream Silence (5) should have no problem trying two turns today with her running style and pedigree.

  • Race 4 5-4-8

Make A Fortune (5) debuts for top connections and has a solid turf sprinting pedigree. Matar (4) showed sped and stopped in his debut and has grass breeding as well. Double Rah Rah (8) has good speed and may move up on the turf today.

  • Race 5 5-3-4

Grand Traverse (5) returns from a layoff and for a claiming price and will be tough to deny if he’s ready to go today. Coffee Boy (3) was sharp off the claim last out and has the fitness edge over the top pick. Five Star David (4) steps up for a top barn and warrants a strong look.

  • Race 6 6-2-3

Dark Nebula (6) has worked well locally and comes in off a good try last out. Magic Hour (2) is a debut runner with a good pedigree and solid morning drills. Stellabymoonlight (3) showed speed before fading in her first start in 10 months and can move forward off that.

  • Race 7 3-7-2

Sugarscat (3) showed little as the favorite but gets another try today and is better than her last. Wish Keeper (7) drops another level and ran well enough on the turf against better fields. A Time to Love (2) showed speed and improvement in her second start and will be a factor if she can repeat that effort.

  • Race 8 7-6-3

Voodoo’s Vision (7) has been popular at the claim box and was a winner when last seen at this price level. Sweet Jody (6) drops to the bottom level and is the biggest threat to the top pick.

  • Race 9 3-7-6

Force De La Nature (3) goes back to the main track and shortens up in distance where she has been successful before. Lobshot (7) finally broke through with the win last out and has the speed to be close from the outside.

  • Race 10 7-2-1

The Louisville Handicap (GIII) attracts a well matched field. Simmard (7) is a turf marathon specialist and has been running well against the best of that division lately. Tahoe Lake (2) finished in front of the top pick last out and is very consistent. Cease (1) has the pedigree to handle the distance on this turf course as a bit of value.

  • Race 11 4-7-1-11-3

Hava Dream (4) drops another level off a good try for a top barn. Aiden’s Indy (7) is consistent and will be close to the pace throughout. Chasing Alpha (1) stopped in her debut against a better group on a wet track and can improve today. Signing Off (11) and Dixie Carol (3) round out the top five.
