Jill Byrne's Handicapping
Condurre (3) drops a level in price while stepping up in condition off the win and looks best. Start the Party (8) was no factor against a stronger group but is a threat on the class drop.
Woodford Lady (4) returns the dirt and a distance where she has been effective and gets a good pace setup today. Emmy Rules (3) was a hard fought debut winner here over a next out winner and can step up today. Holiday Soiree (2) returned with a big effort and worked well since.
Astrology (1) is a graded stakes winner here at this distance and has the class and form to be very strong today. Goodtimehadbyall (8) is a course specialist and exits a win after a wide trip. It Happened Again (5) goes for top connections and has been competitive against stakes company.
Puddy Tap (4) makes her turf debut with a pedigree that suggests she should handle the surface switch and she has never run a poor race. Dos Lunas (8) has proven turf form and excels over the Matt Winn Turf Course. Sisterhood (10) returns to the turf where she is bred to do her best.
Stealcase (2) has improved steadily this year and should get the ideal stalking trip here. Macho Macho (1) stretches out in distance with a pedigree that is loaded with stamina and was impressive in his local win. Right To Vote (3) set very fast fractions before being caught late in the Peter Pan (GII) and looks to be the best speed here.
Funny Proposition (11) was an easy winner on the main track and has a pedigree to transfer that form to the turf in this strong group. Colonial Flag (3) has moved forward in each turf start and has the perfect stalking style for this course. Coup (7) exits an easy win in The Hilltop stakes against a softer field.
Champion Royal Delta (5) faltered in the Dubai World Cup (GI) but excelled in winning the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (GI) under the Twin Spires. Afleeting Lady (3) easily captured the prep for this race and makes her third start of a form cycle. St. John’s River (1) was no match for the top pick at Saratoga but has run two of her best races here including a second in the Kentucky Oaks (GI).
A stellar field lines up for the Stephen Foster (GI). Wise Dan (1) part of the entry with is equally talented stable mate Successful Dan (1A), exits a record setting performance, has had time to recover, and is proven at Churchill. Nehro (4), second in the 137th Kentucky Derby, just missed to Alternation (8) in a fantastic renewal of the Pimlico Special. Ron The Greek (5) will be rolling late in a race with plenty of pace.
Drill Sergeant (4) made up ground late in his debut at two turns and should move forward off that effort. Mr. Producer (7) puts blinkers on and finally draws a better post for today. Lockout (8) just missed when catching a wet track from the inside post and can get a better trip here.
Medieval Cat (8) goes on the big drop first off the claim for a leading stable and looks bets today. Dads Shooting Star (2) has the speed to be a factor from the start off a gate to wire win. Chinchilla Lady (4) second at this level last out is a logical choice.
Quite Ready (9) is bred for the turf and has the speed to overcome the outside draw. Grand Avenue (3) had a rough start in his debut and just lost the nod at the wire in a strong effort. Bob’s Gone Wild (8) and Loud Pipes (4) round out the top five.
