Jill Byrne's Handicapping
Gold Mate (3) has been training well for his debut and has a precocious pedigree. Gold Rock (1) has also worked well for his first out for a top barn.
Sharp Tongue Lady (3) drops in class off a poor effort and gets the slight edge as she faces a softer group here. Backside Blackie (2) had a wide trip last out and has proven better than that performance.
Wallofsound (9) was slow from the gate and then had a wide trip in her debut. She drops in class today and has the experience from that start. Dixie Devon (8) has run evenly in both starts and like the top pick now takes a drop into claiming company. Form An Opinion (2) is a debut runner with good workouts from a sharp stable.
Forest Coast (3) has been chasing the very formidable Tiban and looks strong here. Simply Gone (1) was in good form at Oaklawn Park and will be tough here if he can match that form. Pagosa Peak (2) is in good form but steps up today and meets more pace.
Race 5 – North of Never (7) exits a good effort behind Silver Max, one of the top 3 year old turf runners in the country, and has never run a bad race. Diez (5) stepped up to a stakes race off a debut maiden win and has trained well for the return here. Ghost Rider (9) adds blinkers for his first stateside start for a top barn in this scenario.
Isthmus (2) steps up off the claim in good form for a very successful team. Ammaroo (8) shows only one poor race and that was on the Polytrack. He looks very competitive here. Philippe (7) just missed in a strong allowance race last out and will get a favorable pace set up today.
Strasbourg (7) faces claiming company for the first time and looks to be training well for this spot. Firetack (4) has run two good races against winners and figures prominently today. Bob Can’t Jump (5) drops another class level today and exits a tough race.
Vasten (12) has put up a string of place efforts and gets another try here. He looks to get the perfect stalking trip from the outside draw. An Shanachie (8) finished behind the top pick last out but can move forward in his second try versus winners. Meowser (7) is working very well for his debut for a stable having a strong meet.
Wayward Sailor (10) exits back to back wins and has a good running style for today and a fantastic turf record. My Man Dan (8) drops back to a claimer off an even effort against better and ran deceptively well on the turf. St Moose (3) goes for a new stable today and will likely perform better back on the turf today.
American Legend (5) has worked well for his debut for a sharp barn. Do You Like Money (9) has also trained well for his first start and has a pedigree to be ready to roll first out of the gate. Thirsty Thursday (10) has raced evenly in his last two and fits well here. Cactus Cognac (4) and Mucho Macho Uno (8) fit well in the top five.
