Jill Byrne's Handicapping
Race 1 – Z Camelot (2) faces maiden claimers for the first time and has run his best races locally at this distance. Night Seeker (4) has a similar profile to the top pick and is the one to beat here. Geometry (6) has the pace to be well placed from the start and looks competitive with these.
Race 2 – Five Afleet (8) is in good form and has run well over this surface. He should be close to the pace in this marathon trip. Harborplace (6) takes blinkers off and has been close versus stronger open claiming company. Horned Frog (4) is improving and looks capable of handling today’s extended trip.
Race 3 – Box Office Appeal (12) is the only debut runner in a field of thus far underachievers and gets the edge today. Gerry’s Reward (2) drops in class sharply and will be a factor if she can run back to her first start. Dependence (7) can move forward in her second try and first on the dirt. Harling’s Darling (1) round out the Super Hi 5.
Race 4 – Rightfully So (7) looked impressive in his last start and has worked well locally for this. King Kid (4) is a stablemate of the top pick and looks like the biggest threat on the return to the main track today. Wolf Whistle (2) impressed in his debut and can transfer that form to the dirt.
Race 5- Pavla (4) ran well at big odds in her debut and can move forward today at much lower odds. Nifty Shindig (7) has two very good efforts on the grass and looks strong today. Five Third Avenue (3) has a beautiful turf pedigree and should improve with the surface switch and experience of her first start.
Race 6 – Angels’ Share (7) returns to the McGee stable and looks well placed to add another local victory. My My My Maria (5) will be rolling from the start and is dangerous on her best. Alley Sprout (4) has a solid local record and would be no surprise in this well matched group.
Race 7 – Quite Ready (12) does his best running locally and is fresh, sharp and well placed today. Liberty Bound (1) is the one to beat but is compromised by the inside draw and will have to work out a trip. Shadow Warrior (7) has been idle but has the prior form that fits well with here.
Race 8 – Empire Desire (5) takes blinkers off and can improve greatly in her second try today. Cerce Cay (7) has run well on the Matt Winn turf and has the speed to be a danger to wire this group. Class Song (1) looks to move forward in her second start off a long layoff and has a pedigree for the surface and the distance.
Race 9 – Oh Carole (4) is making her third start off an extended break and gets a good pace setup here. Hot Roots (1) is a barn mate of the top pick and is undefeated in two impressive local efforts. Young and Lovely (5) faltered on the synthetic but shows good form on the dirt.
Race 10 – Bourbon Kitty (2) is consistent and does her best running at today’s mile distance. Swakopmund (12) does her best running locally and will be running late. Winter’s Child (9) exits a win and shows some good local performances. Rock Song Five (1) and Dodie Jo (5) look like top contenders in the Super Hi 5.
