Jill Byrne's Handicapping
Race 1 – Animal Style (7) ran well in his debut run here and a repeat of that makes him tough to go against. Dehere On Tour (5) has been solid in two starts and goes for a sharp stable here. China Holiday (12) debuts for good connections and would be no surprise to be ready first out
Race 2 – Always Here Too (2) faltered when chasing Breeder’s Cup contender Dust and Diamonds and is well placed today off the layoff. Cheery (1) is consistent and has good speed but must overcome the inside draw against a solid group today. Flashy Lassie (6) won the G-2 Debutante here and returned from an extended break with a good win at Hoosier.
Race 3 – Cache Me (7) drops sharply in class of some dismal efforts. If she returns to her form here in the spring she will be tough to go by. Rusticana (9) is another big class dropper with a solid chance today. Miss Ruud (6) adds to the list of fillies diving down the claiming ladder and will be a contender if she can transfer her form to dirt. Square Energy (8) and Audington (1) fill out the Super Hi 5.
Race 4 – Vespato (2) stretches out in distance off two decent sprint efforts and tried the turf which should suit his pedigree well. Mcilroy (11) debuts with a series of solid workouts and a strong grass family in his pedigree. Bourbon Pride (10) has turf experience and can move forward today.
Race 5- Governor’s Badge (8) ran well locally and at the distance and gets a slight edge in a well matched group. Campton (6) is a course winner and class dropper and looks the biggest threat here. Humor’s Punch (3) has good speed and runs well locally but may get challenged early on.
Race 6 – In The Wagon (6) drops in class for strong connections and looks competitive here. Sookie Stackhouse (10) has been off form but gets a needed class drop with these.
Race 7 – Crazy Lucky (10) ran very well in her debut and can improve with her second try and the switch to dirt. Queen Cumulus (9) has been solid in two starts but may not have as much room for improvement as the top pick. Cora Mesa (7) adds blinkers for her second start off the layoff and ran very well in her local debut effort.
Race 8 – State (8) has run well in both stateside starts and looks strong in this spot. Correspondent (2) has never put in a poor effort and is a solid contender today. Crazy Party (3) has the speed to be dangerous and has faced some tough company .
Race 9 – Well matched group in today’s G-3 Ack Ack with four graded stakes winners lining up in the field of 8. Dominus (4) has been competitive on all surfaces against tough company and has the perfect style for today’s race setup. Neck ‘N Neck (2) is a course specialist and has been improving throughout the year. Zimmer (1) loves the Churchill surface and is strong at the distance but will have to avoid a aped dual from his inside draw.
Race 10 – D.C. Gene (1) drops in class and has the speed from the rail to be a factor from the start. Adaro (10) is in decent form and fits well here. Need Money Dad (2) looks solid in the Super Hi 5.
