Jill Byrne's Handicapping
Race 1 – Primed N Willing (3) is working sharply for her debut for top juvenile connections. Pearl of a Girl (6) hails from the top two year old barn of Wesley Ward and must be considered. Suits My Fancy (7) shows a couple of decent workouts and would be no surprise with these.
Race 2 – Banjammer (7) is in good form versus slightly better company and gets the edge in this well matched group. Gold Legion (6) is well placed here and can usually be counted on to give a solid run. Flattermejim (5) is on a win roll but may want a bit more distance for his best efforts.
Race 3 – More Than Beauty (5) comes from a powerful juvenile family and shows a speedy gate drill for her debut. Anatole (1) has been blazing in the morning for leading two year old trainer Ward and is the one to beat today. Redgrass Cat (6) has consistent though not flashy workouts for a strong stable.
Race 4 – Gruenewald (8) returns to his favorite track and is always in the mix at this level over this surface. Mon Ami Jolie (5) made his stateside debut against much stronger company and now dives to the bottom level claimers. He should improve with a start and the class drop. Shore Do (3) takes blinkers off in his second start off a layoff and can land a share of this on is best performance.
Race 5- Our Dark Knight (3) is in good form and well placed off the claim for a sharp stable. Gallant Eagle (1) is also in good form and exits a much stronger race last out. Practice Tee (4) has a good record at the mile distance and should get a good stalking trip today.
Race 6 – Noun (3) drops in class and returns to the turf where she has a very good record. She can move forward in her second start of the year. Get Real (6) was an easy winner on the turf in New Orleans and should also appreciate the return back to that surface today. Elusive Echo (9) stopped sharply as the favorite but is capable of better and fits well here.
Race 7 – Lalo’s Baby Bear (3) is the new face to the local scene and has been running well against slightly better fields. Sir Jock (4) drops in class off a decent try last out and has run well locally. Temp (5) is consistent and was running well here in the fall. There appears to be plenty of pace to set up for his closing run.
Race 8 – Tap Twenty One (2) has had some troubled trips on the main tracks and finally got a clear run when winning last out. She can move forward in her second start off the layoff and has the pedigree for the track and the distance. Pedestrian (4) has been knocking at the door in this condition and catches a fairly soft field today. She would be no surprise to finally break through here. Hitechnoweenie (7) ran evenly in her only main track effort here and is also eligible to improve in her second race of the year.
Race 9 – Starship Gambler (9) improved off the claim by top connections last out and looks best here on top of the Super High Five. Sabouli (2) has been consistent since dropping to claiming company and has proven turf form. C P Hath A Way (3) ran a big effort in her 2013 debut and looks to move forward off that try. She should be a strong presence down the stretch. Moneygrabber (6) and Star of Kitalpha (1) round out the top 5. JILL’S SELECTIONS – 9-2-3-6-1
