Jill Byrne's Handicapping

  • Race 1 6-2-1

Treatherlikealady (6) is well placed for top connections and looks best of these. Ms Anna Destiny (2) has a good local record and gets a positive pace angle. Determined Yankee (1) returns to a sprint off the layoff and may be tough to run down late.

  • Race 2 5-2-6

La Stupenda (5) faced open claimers last out and ran well. The drop to conditioned claimers makes her a threat here. Another Trick (2) has a local win and now steps down the claiming ladder for today. Simple (6) was overmatched last out but figures prominently on her prior efforts.

  • Race 3 5-2-6

La Stupenda (5) faced open claimers last out and ran well. The drop to conditioned claimers makes her a threat here. Another Trick (2) has a local win and now steps down the claiming ladder for today. Simple (6) was overmatched last out but figures prominently on her prior efforts.

  • Race 4 1-6-7

Flashy Gal (1) has a solid turf record and should relish the added distance today. Magnificent Shirl (6) had a rough trip last out and has been keeping top company on the west coast turf.

  • Race 5 7-6-2

Stage Street (7) returns from a layoff with a good series of workouts for top connections and looks set to go today. Captain Davrick (6) tired in his first try of the year and has since worked very well locally. Linchpin (2) is a debut runner with good morning drills and a precocious pedigree.

  • Race 6 3-2-8

Owl Moon (3) exits a key race in her debut. She broke poorly but should be sharper having had that experience. Gamay Noir (2) made up a lot of ground in her debut and can also move forward here. Broken Blues (8) had a rough trip in her first start and now draws a better post and drops slightly in class today.

  • Race 7 3-2-6

Au Moon (3) was a runaway winner versus lesser quality last out but has run well on the turf here and gets the edge in a well matched group. D’Wildcard (2) is in top form and will be rolling late under Borel . Saffron Hill (6) fits well off the turf here.

  • Race 8 5-4-7

Dreams Cut Short (5) ran a huge winning effort off the long layoff and is already proven on the Churchill main track. He gets a slight nod in this evenly matched group. Flashy Sunrise (4) took a long time to find the winners circle but since then has been in great form and can move forward again here. Dreaming Blue (7) was overmatched last out but fits well to get a share of this.

  • Race 9 9-6-3

Swift Afleet (9) was very keen in his debut run and now takes blinkers off which may help him relax and carry his speed. Coin Flip (6) is a well bred debut runner with good workouts. Little Jimmy (3) can improve off his first try.

  • Race 10 9-5-1

Palazzo Babe (9) wasn’t far behind the top pick when they met on this course and figures prominently from the start. Good Deed (5) has been working brilliantly on the local turf course and has the pedigree to excel with the surface switch.

  • Race 11 12-2-4-9-11

Dontgothere (12) has trained well for his debut and looks set to go if he can overcome the outside draw. Stanley Cup (2) is another debut runner with good works and a sharp stable. Smokin Hot (4) and Lafitte (9) round out the top five.
