Jill Byrne's Handicapping

  • Race 1 5-2-7

Brother Bird (5) returns to the races off a long layoff for top connections and looks tough to go against off his prior form. Practice Tee (2) is very sharp and has a win at this level locally. With Excellence (7) has a strong local record and carries a light weight with the “bug” rider aboard.

  • Race 2 1-2-3

Tyrus (1) drops in class and has been running well versus strong company. He always runs his race but must overcome the inside draw. Wild Target (2) goes first off the claim for a team very proficient in this scenario. Expect an improved effort on the class drop as well. Gaelico ( 3) ran well when last seen at Churchill in similar race conditions.

  • Race 3 8-7-6

La Stupenda (8) raced well against better fields and is very consistent making her the top choice. All By Chance (7) hasn’t seen the winners circle for awhile but gets a positive pace set up here. Pure Value (6) has a good local record and a return to her favorite track should help her rebound.

  • Race 4 5-3-1

Shared Property (5) is training well for this evenly matched group and may have found his niche as a sprinter. Next Right Thing (3) makes his second start off a layoff and has a solid local record. Ghost Is Clear (1) has strong figures and will be sharp from the inside draw.

  • Race 5 8-5-1

Coin Flip (8) looked impressive in his debut win here then ran evenly after a troubled trip in his first try against winners. All went wrong at the start in his last try and he gets another chance here. Grand Contender (5) was a sharp winner off a layoff for a top barn and a repeat of that makes him a factor. Strike One (1) exits a tough race and ran well here in the spring.

  • Race 6 9-6-2

Too Cool (9) is a debut runner with good workouts for a strong stable. Geebes (6) had a rough trip in her debut and now drops in class and tries the dirt with a series of decent local works.

  • Race 7 3-6-8

Turbalo (3) takes blinkers off again and on his best he gets the edge in this well matched group. Our Prize (6) is inconsistent but has shown some promise versus similar company. Argumental (8) drops in class and has a win over the track.

  • Race 8 10-8-5

Arriving (10) draws a poor outside post but has the most chance to improve off his debut. He should handle the distance move forward here. Scout Leader (8) is capable of a strong effort here with the added ground.

  • Race 9 4-1-2

A.P. Indian (4) gets lasix for his first start in 11 months. He was an easy winner in his only start and has the pedigree to improve with age and distance. Exploring (1) returns to the races with some good local workouts for a sharp stable. Saint X. (2) finally broke through for the win last out and has always run well. He may be able to repeat here.

  • Race 10 9-3-2-1-10

Runaway Pepper (9) is in good form and looks best here at these conditions. Glint (3) takes blinkers off and tries a distance of ground. He could be the best speed here. Herp (2) comes in off a big win against a lesser field. Brother Stuart (1) steps up in top form and fits well here. Gallant Pleasure (10) rounds out the top five.
