Jill Byrne's Handicapping
Little Gidding (6) drops sharply in class for a trainer and jockey team that has done well together. Indygo Star (1) is a debut runner with decent workouts from a top stable. Distinct Diva (8) goes for a new stable and has faced better quality previously.
Ration (2) has run well locally and takes a class drop off a good win last out. Benergy (1) makes his third start off of a layoff and fits well at this level. Cold Facts (4) always runs well over this surface and will be rolling late down the lane.
Sky Girl (4) makes her second start off a break and returns to the track where she ran well before. She gets a slight edge from just off the pace in a very tough field here. Socialbug (2) exits a strong victory and is making her third start since a layoff. She is very quick and could take this field gate to wire. Gal About Town (6) makes he first start of the year and showed quality efforts here last fall.
I’mbetterthangood (11) will be tough to go against if he draws in the race. Bel Air Bullet (9) ran well last spring in his debut on this course and a repeat of that makes him a strong contender. Nobadeer (1) should relish the turf course and can improve off his first race. Dynamic Decision (4) is a well-bred debut runner with good works.
Dynamic Knight (2) has a strong local record and should get plenty of pace to set up for him. Highroller Dave (8) is consistent and goes for a team that wins at a high percentage. Backdoc (5) exits a solid win off the claim and can be effective here.
Phat Day (2) looks for his seventh consecutive win and has excelled over the Churchill surface as well. Closerwalk (8) drops a bit in class and is well drawn outside all of the speed today. Lookn Mighty Fast (1) does his best running beneath the Twin Spires and will be running down the lane.
Bourbon Sense (8) makes his first start on turf and for a new stable off an extended layoff. He has trained well and ran against some top company last year. Notability (9) has been solid in all turf tries and may prefer the local course with his running style. Joyful Moments (7) has a pedigree to excel on the grass and is the most likely to improve today.
The G-3 Derby Trial attracts a solid group of three year olds headed by the Bob Baffert duo of Bayern (1) and Chitu (2) who are both still under consideration for the G-1 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum ! They are equally talented and either one would be the top pick here with the edge going to Bayern as he adds blinkers and worked very well over the track. Chitu is consistent and will sit a perfect stalking position. Spot (9) returns to a distance that he is better suited to and draws well outside the pace. Friendswith K Mill (4) will be rolling late here.
Diamond Creek (2) raced well when adding blinkers last out and a repeat effort gives her an edge here. Last Chance To See (1) is in good form but steps up today. Dangerous Dream (5) was an upset winner over this track in the fall at this level.
Dynaskra (11) had a rough trip as the favorite last out and can make amends today for a new stable. Tiz Tebow Time (1) takes a class drop and can improve in his second start this year. Lucky Pursuit (4) ran well at these conditions last year and is the one to beat if ready to go today. Conserve (2) and Tapit Quick (8) look to be strong in the Super Hi 5.
