(Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008) – It’s sure to be a Happy Halloween for at least 10 college students on Friday, Oct. 31 at Churchill Downs as the Louisville, Ky. racetrack and the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association give away $10,000 in college scholarships.

Churchill Downs will offer free general admission to all full-time students at a college, university or trade school who present a valid student identification card at admission gates on Friday, Oct. 31. Those students will then be directed to a registration tent near the saddling paddock to enter the prize drawings to win the $1,000 college scholarships. One prize drawing will take place after each of the 10 races that day. Any full-time college student whose name is fortunate to be drawn must be present to win, and there is a limit of one scholarship per student.

The first 500 students who pass through the Churchill Downs turnstiles, which open at 11 a.m. ET, will be given a free t-shirt courtesy of Gray’s College Bookstore. Also, AT&T will be on-hand at a tent near the saddling paddock to give away free cellular phones, Bluetooth headsets and other prizes.

The first of the 10 live races is 12:40 p.m. ET.

The Friday, Oct. 31 program also kick-starts the track’s popular “Friday Happy Hours” promotion. New Orleans-themed “Friday Happy Hours” will return for the Fall Meet (through Friday, Nov. 21) with $2 Budweiser Select, $2 hurricanes and $2 Fischer’s hot dogs complemented by live jazz music on-track between 3-5 p.m.

Churchill Downs’ 119th Fall Meet, featuring world-class horse racing, continues its 26-day run through Saturday, Nov. 29.

General admission to Churchill Downs is $3, but only $1 to senior citizens and members of the track’s Twin Spires Club. Children 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Parking is free in the Longfield Avenue lot (Gates 10 & 12) and $3 in all other lots. Valet parking is $5.
