(June 20, 2008) – Windmill Manor Farm’s Knights Cross rallied from just off the pace to win Friday’s $45,200 Centric Consulting Classic at Churchill Downs by 1 3/4 lengths over Foster.
Ridden by Julien Leparoux and trained by Eddie Kenneally, Knights Cross assumed command at the top of the stretch from Grease Monkey and drew off to cover the five furlongs on a sloppy main track for a race that was taken off the turf in :57.59.
The victory was the fourth in 14 starts for the 4-year-old son of Thunderello and increased his career earnings to $106,868.
As the favorite in the field of seven, Knights Cross rewarded his backers with mutuels of $5.80, $3.20 and $2.60. Foster, ridden by Miguel Mena, returned $6 and $3.40 with Road Ruler, who finished another two lengths back in third under Shaun Bridgmohan, paid $3 to show.
