(June 15, 2008) – Mrs SK Johnston Jr’s Rock Gold rallied past pacesetter Crack the Cognac in the final strides to win Sunday’s Father’s Day Classic, a $41,040 allowance sprint for 3-year-olds and up at Churchill Downs, by a neck.

The 8-5 favorite in the field of 11, Rock Gold covered the five furlongs on “firm” turf in :57.25 to give jockey Corey Lanerie his second victory of the afternoon. Trained by Walter Bindner, Rock Gold won for the third time in 17 starts and increased his career earnings to $158,936.

A 4-year-old Kentucky-bred son of El Prado, Rock Gold returned mutuels of $5.20, $3 and $2.60. Crack the Cognac, ridden by Jesus Castanon, paid $20 and $10 with Due Date finishing another half-length back in third under Jamie Theriot paying $5.40 to show.
