Nov 12, 2008 Gary Yunt

(November 12, 2008) – Alan Pesch, George Bolton and Fog City Stables’ Forty Grams spurted clear of the field at the head of the stretch and drew out to a 2 ¾-length victory in Wednesday’s featured $47,260 Ronald McDonald House Charities Purse at Churchill Downs.

Trained by Steve Asmussen and ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan, Forty Grams rated second just off the pace-setting Timbucto in the run down the backstretch. Bridgmohan moved Forty Grams on even terms with Timbucto at the three-eighths pole and cruised home unopposed, completing the mile on a fast track in 1:35.34.

A 4-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Distorted Humor out of the Phone Trick mare Belle South, Forty Grams won for the fourth time in 19 career starts and posted his first victory at Churchill Downs. The winner’s share of $30,482 boosted Forty Grams’ career earnings to $376,108.

In defeating eight rivals, Forty Grams returned mutuels of $12.80, $6.40 and $4.40. Coach Ryan, ridden by Miguel Mena, rallied for second to return $7.60 and $5.60. Let It Rock, ridden by Jesus Castanon, paid $6 to show.
