(June 8, 2008) – Zayat Stables’ Thorn Song took advantage of a hedge-skimming ride by Robby Albarado to rally to win Sunday’s $50,400 allowance feature for 3-year-olds and up at Churchill Downs by 1 1/2 lengths over Obi Wan Kenobi.

Trained by Dale Romans, Thorn Song covered the mile on firm turf in 1:35.24 in defeating eight rivals and giving Albarado his third of four victories on the afternoon.

As the 1-2 favorite, Thorn Song returned mutuels of $3, $2.40 and $2.10. Obi Wan Kenobi, ridden by Brian Hernandez Jr., paid $3.20 and $2.60 with Demarcation, who was another half-length back in third under Jesus Castanon, returned $3.40 to show.

The victory was the fifth in 18 career starts for the 5-year-old son of Unbridled’s Song and was worth $31,608 to increase his career earnings to $382,201.

Live racing resumes Wednesday at Churchill Downs with a nine-race program that begins at 1:15 p.m. ET. There’s a Pick 6 carryover on Races 4-9 of $6,242.92.
