Churchill Downs News Release: Pool for Mandatory Payout of Sunday's Derby City 6 on Closing Day Could Reach $2 Million

Nov 29, 2025

Bettors have a lucrative $451,889 carryover in the Derby City 6 to chase Sunday at Churchill Downs for the 12-race closing day program.

There is a mandatory payout in Sunday’s 20-cent Derby City 6, which covers Races 7-12 starting at approximately 3:55 p.m. (all times Eastern) because it’s closing day of the 26-day Fall Meet.

The jackpot was $451,889 at the conclusion of Saturday’s action, and if last year is any indication, the pool could reach $2 million.

Last year’s Fall Meet final day featured a $240,017 carryover and the closing day pool grew to $1,512,730, which was more than six times the carryover. The winning combination in 2024 paid $7,489.54.

All monies will be distributed Sunday to ticket holders with the most winners in the six-race series.

Takeout on the Derby City 6 is just 15% – one of the lowest multi-race wager takeout rates in American racing – and only costs 20 cents per combination.

Sunday’s closing day sequence features 69 entered horses for a lofty average of 11.5 entries per race:

Race 7 (3:55 p.m.): MC 20000, 3&up, 7 F (12 entries)
Race 8 (4:25 p.m.): Clm 50000b, 3&up, 6 F (11 entries)
