FAVORED PARCHMENT PARTY WINS ISAAC MURPHY MARATHON; WAGGLEY TAKES KENTUCKY JUVENILE
LOUISVILLE, KY (Wednesday, April 29, 2026) – Pin Oak Stud’s Parchment Party moved to the front at the top of the stretch and then held off bids from Interceptor and Stowaway to post a 1 ¼-length victory in the eighth running of the $200,000 Isaac Murphy Marathon presented by Resolute Racing (Listed) for 4-year-olds and up Wednesday afternoon at Churchill Downs.
In the Isaac Murphy, Parchment Party received a ground-saving trip from John Velazquez as Johny’s Rendezvous led the field through fractions of :23.94, :48.17, 1:14.18 and 1:39.71.
Approaching the half-mile pole, Velazquez eased Parchment Party off the rail for a three-wide move along with second choice No Bien Ni Mal (BRZ). The two favorites reached the top of the stretch together with Parchment Party pulling clear of that rival at the eighth pole.
But the work was not done as Interceptor and Stowaway drew on almost even terms before Parchment Party kicked away in the final yards.
Trained by Bill Mott, Parchment Party completed the mile and a half over a sloppy track in 2:31.51.
Parchment Party is a 5-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Constitution out of the Tiznow mare Life Well Lived. It is the fourth stakes victory for Parchment Party who has won six of 14 starts.
WAGGLEY TAKES KENTUCKY JUVENILE
Ten Broeck Farm’s Waggley took the lead at the top of the stretch en route to a 1 3/4-length victory over Super Saiyajin to win the 32nd running of the $250,000 Kentucky Juvenile presented by Resolute Racing.
Trained by Wesley Ward and ridden by Joel Rosario, Waggley completed the five furlongs over a sloppy track in 1:00.37.
It is the fifth victory in the race for Ward, all with fillies, and second straight to go with Pinky Finger in 2025. His other winners were Averly Jane in 2021, Silvertoni in 2016 and Aegean in 2009.
Waggley is a Kentucky-bred daughter of Life Is Good and out of the Malibu Moon mare Lunar Empress. A 3 ½-length winner on debut at Keeneland three weeks ago, Waggley picked up $154,000 for the victory to increase her earnings to $208,405.
In a field scratched down to three runners, Waggley returned $2.12 to win. Gerardo Corrales was aboard Super Saiyajin, who finished a head in front of American Pope and Chris Elliott.
Favored in the field of seven, Parchment Party returned $4.52, $3.18 and $2.46. Interceptor, ridden by Flavien Prat, returned $5.60 and $3.76 and finished a half-length in front of Stowaway who paid $4.50 to show under Jose Ortiz.
It was another 3 lengths back to No Bien Ni Mal with Wynstock, Johny’s Rendezvous and Makes Sense following in order.
ISAAC MURPHY MARATHON QUOTES
John Velazquez (Jockey, Parchment Party, winner) – “I knew that if we got in front too soon he’d start waiting. And he did. He gets about a length in front of them and he wants to coast. I got after him and he responds well to that. I had to work for it a little bit but we got it done.”
Flavien Prat (Jockey, Interceptor, second) – “He ran a big race. At one point I thought I had a chance to go by, but I thought it was a good effort overall.”
KENTUCKY JUVENILE QUOTES
Joel Rosario (Jockey, Waggley, winner) – “She didn’t come out of there the best and we got in a little tight on the backside. Then when we straightened out the horse on the inside (American Pope) gave us a push. But in the end she proved that she was the class of the race.”
Gerardo Corrales (Jockey, Super Saiyajin, second) – “He broke great, I had a nice hold early on. He kept running hard when I asked, but the winner is a really nice horse.”
