Explora and Movie Night made all the running early in Saturday night’s 51st running of the $299,000 Dogwood Stakes presented by Resolute Racing (Grade III) for 3-year-old fillies but it was Juddmonte’s homebred Conceit who rallied from the outside to spoil the party and narrowly beat those two by a head at the wire in a thrilling three-horse photo finish in the centerpiece of three nighttime stakes races at Churchill Downs.

The Brad Cox-trained Conceit, winner of the $200,000 Audubon Oaks at Ellis Park in her previous start, benefited from the speed duel between odds-on 1-4 favorite Explora, a five-time stakes winner including the prestigious Test (GI) on Aug. 8, and two-time winner Movie Night, who pressed the leader’s right hip every step of the way through early splits of :23.13 and :45.12. Conceit, under Mario Gutierrez, was relaxed in fourth down the backstretch before she charged home down the stretch to scarcely prevail in 1:23.13 over a fast track for seven furlongs.

“That one was a good birthday present,” said Gutierrez, who celebrated his 40th birthday on Saturday. “She fought for me all the way to the wire.”

The $185,000 first prize jumped Conceit’s earnings to $434,883 from a record of 4-1-1 in seven starts.

Conceit, the 5-1 third betting choice, paid $13.46, $3.34 and $2.58. Explora, ridden by Flavien Prat, returned $2.18 and $2.10. Movie Night, the 7-2 second betting choice with Axel Concepcion up, was another head back of the runner-up and paid $2.48 to show.

A Fine Chardonay and My Steel Magnolia completed the order of finish. Where Luck Lives was scratched.

Conceit is a daughter of Not This Time out of the Tapit mare Pachinko and was bred in Kentucky by her owners.

“She’s a lightly raced filly and starting to really figure things out on the dirt,” Cox said. “We know she tries hard and was going to come with a big run. We’re very thankful for Juddmonte for sending us another talented homebred of theirs and the future is very bright.”

The Dogwood is named for the hardy, blooming tree that adds so much beauty to the spring landscape in Kentucky.

DOUBLECENTS PREVAILS IN $295,000 HARRODS CREEK

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026) – Doublecents overtook pacesetter Creole Chrome in the final furlong and outkicked Tagermeen to the finish to win Saturday’s sixth running of the $295,000 Harrods Creek for 3-year-olds at Churchill Downs by 1 ½ lengths.

Doublecents, a son of Goldencents who won a first-level allowance by four lengths at Remington Park and prepped for Saturday’s race with swift breeze at Louisiana Downs earlier this month, clocked seven furlongs over a fast track in 1:22.48 under Francisco Arrieta, who rode the winner for trainer Brett Creighton and owner Danny Keene’s Keene Thoroughbreds LLC.

The winner’s share of $183,450 increased Doublecents’ earnings to $317,926 with a record of 3-3-1 in six starts.

Doublecents sat off the right hip of leader Creole Chrome through modest early splits of :23.58 and :46.71 as 3-2 favorite American Man tugged away in third along the inside and Tagermeen tracked in fourth. The cast compacted on the turn as the Louisiana-bred stakes winner Creole Chrome couldn’t sustain his run. Doublecents emerged in front with an eighth of mile to run and was able to hold off a closing Tagermeen who chased from the outside.

“He tried really hard tonight,” Arrieta said. “He broke well and I got him in a good position just off the leader. Down the lane he still had another gear left to hold everyone off.”

It was Doublecents’ first stakes victory in his first try against that company.

Doublecents returned $15.84, $6.22 and $4.10 as the 6-1 fourth betting choice in the field of six. Tagermeen, under Jaime Torres, paid $4.80 and $3.34 at odds of 5-2. It was another one length back to Creole Chrome in third, who returned $5.52 to show under Axel Concepcion at 7-1.

American Man, Gilded Bandit and Stop the Car completed the running order.

Doublecents is out of the Uncle Mo mare Moka Latte and was bred in Kentucky by Clark Brewster.

The race honors the neighborhood of Louisville centered near Harrods Creek at the intersection of River Road and Wolf Pen Branch Road. It is roughly bordered by the Ohio River to the west and US 42 to the east. Formerly an unincorporated community, it was designated a neighborhood of Louisville when the city merged with Jefferson County in 2003.

COMFORTABLE WIN BY CONSEQUENT IN $199,000 SENECA FOR JUDDMONTE DOUBLE

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026) – Juddmonte scored a homebred stakes double Saturday night at Churchill Downs when Consequent took the lead with a half mile to the finish and repelled challenges leaving the far turn to easily defeat Answered Prayers by 4 ¾ lengths in the sixth running of the $199,000 Seneca Overnight Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Churchill Downs.

Ridden by Flavien Prat and trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, Consequent ran 1 1/16 miles over a fast track in 1:43.06 to collect her second stakes win and remain unbeaten in four starts. Last fall, Consequent won the Grade II Starlet at Los Alamitos Race Course.

The $123,000 winner’s share increased Consequent’s earnings to $342,460.

Woodstock went right to the front and ran the first quarter mile in :24.16 before Consequent assumed the lead into the final turn after a half mile in :48.22. In Total Awe, Answered Prayers and A. P.’s Girl attempted to challenge leaving the turn in upper stretch but Consequent spurted clear and had plenty left for the stretch run.

“She was really traveling well on the backside and took me to the lead without asking,” Prat said. “Around the turn she kept coming for me and kicked strong down the lane.”

Consequent, who won an Ellis Park allowance in her previous start on July 24, paid $3.40, $2.38 and $2.10. Answered Prayers, ridden by Jaime Torres, returned $3.90 and $2.58. It was another 5 ¼ lengths back to A. P.’s Girl in third under Brian Hernandez Jr., who paid $2.26 to show.

In Total Awe and Woodstock completed the order of finish. Knickleandime was scratched.

Consequent was bred in Kentucky. She is a daughter of Into Mischief out of the Uncle Mo mare Cognitive.

The race honors Seneca Park, which was the last park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted’s firm in Louisville. The park resides in the Louisville neighborhood of Seneca Gardens. It is part of the Cherokee-Seneca neighborhood, which is bounded by I-64 and other hilly neighborhoods.

RACE 2 DECLARED ‘NO CONTEST’ AFTER SIX HORSES INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026) – A six-horse accident in Saturday night’s second race at Churchill Downs resulted in the 6 ½-furlong race for maiden 2-year-olds being declared a “no contest” by Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Corporation stewards.

The incident occurred on the far turn when Lutkenhaus, ridden by Cristian Torres, collapsed in front of other participants, who were unable to avoid the fallen horse.

Other horses (and jockeys) involved were Industrious (Keith Asmussen), Midnight Rumble (Axel Concepcion), Ritornello (Francisco Arrieta), Shacklebolt (Walter Rodriguez) and Steve Wood (Martin Garcia).

Garcia, Rodriguez and Cristian Torres were transported to University of Louisville Hospital for further evaluation. All were conscious.

Asmussen, Concepcion and Arrieta were cleared by onsite medical personnel, although Asmussen opted to take off his mount in the final race.

Team Valor’s Lutkenhaus, trained by Rodolphe Brisset, incurred a catastrophic injury to his left front leg. After evaluation by the on-track veterinarians, he was humanely euthanized, according to Dr. Will Farmer, Churchill Downs Incorporated Equine Medical Director.

Farmer also provided the following updates:

Industrious was vanned to trainer Steve Asmussen’s barn and was treated for a left front leg injury by his attending veterinarian.
Shacklebolt, trained by Eoin Harty, incurred lacerations to his right hind leg but walked off the track before he was given a van ride to the Receiving Barn.
Steve Wood, trained by Donnie K. Von Hemel, and Ritornello, conditioned by Matt Williams, each had superficial abrasions and walked back to their respective barns.
Midnight Rumble, trained by Joe Sharp, was caught by an outrider and walked back to the barn area.
Vukota, the 4-5 favorite in the field of 10, crossed the finish line in first and was followed by Frozenknife, Reinforcement and Koivun before KHRGC stewards declared the “no contest,” which resulted in the refund of numerous wagers (not including multi-race wagers).

There was a 34-minute delay before racing resumed to ensure all onsite medical personnel, including veterinarians, were returned to their assigned positions for racing to continue.
