Limestone Stakes Winner Shisospicy Returns in Saturday's Mamzelle

May 07, 2025 Kevin Kerstein

Morplay Racing’s Limestone Stakes winner Shisospicy headlines an oversubscribed field of 14 3-year-old fillies and three also-eligibles entered in Saturday’s sixth running of the $225,000 Mamzelle Stakes (Grade III), a 5 ½-furlong sprint over the Matt Winn Turf Course at Churchill Downs.

Saturday’s 11-race card begins at 12:45 p.m. (all times Eastern), with the Mamzelle scheduled as Race 10 at 5:27 p.m.

Trained by Jose D’Angelo, the speedy Shisospicy edged clear for a half-length win in last month’s Limestone Stakes at Keeneland, holding off fellow Mamzelle entrant Dreamaway. The Kentucky-bred daughter of Mitole will break from post No. 9 under jockey Jose Ortiz.

John Oxley’s Dreamaway will look to turn the tables Saturday. The gray daughter of Flameaway was a dominant 5 ¼-length winner of the Colleen Stakes last summer at Monmouth Park. Trained by Wesley Ward, she will break from post 6 with Joe Bravo up.
